Two AI Medical Tools from Beijing Deployed in Guinea
Two medical AI innovations incubated by the National AI Application Pilot Base (Medical) in Beijing have been put into clinical use in Guinea, according to an announcement at the 2026 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS).
The AI fundus camera developed by Beijing Tongren Hospital and the AI pediatrician developed by Beijing Children's Hospital were brought to Africa by the 32nd Chinese medical team sent to Guinea. They are now in clinical use at the China-Guinea Friendship Hospital. This marks the first time that achievements from the pilot base have been deployed overseas as a complete set with a national medical aid team, representing a step forward in the base's full chain from incubation and validation to serving national strategies.
The AI fundus camera, built on the ophthalmic resources of Beijing Tongren Hospital, can evaluate more than 10 fundus abnormalities and 10 chronic disease risks in a single examination, with an accuracy rate of over 95% for identifying blinding eye diseases. It has been adopted by more than 1,000 medical institutions in China and has served over 40 million visits in multiple countries and regions. The AI pediatrician, trained on China's largest pediatric dataset and incorporating clinical experience from over 300 pediatric experts at Beijing Children's Hospital, provides real-time assistance to frontline doctors through a dual mode of active inquiry and expert companionship. It has already been promoted in Kyrgyzstan.
Zhang Mingzhu, captain of the 32nd Chinese medical team to Guinea, said via video link that the two tools have been deployed locally with localization completed, and patient feedback has been positive.
