OpenRouter Introduces Shell Tool for AI Models to Run Commands in Hosted Linux Containers

OpenRouter announced on September 10, 2026 the launch of Shell, a new stateful server tool now available in beta as openrouter:shell. The tool allows any model on OpenRouter to run commands in a hosted Linux container and use the new Files API to move files in and out of the container.
