Anthropic details efforts to block Claude misuse across cyber, biological, and weapons domains
Anthropic released its most detailed threat intelligence report to date on September 11, 2026, detailing how people attempted to misuse its AI assistant Claude for cyberattacks, influence operations, surveillance, biological research, and weapons development, as well as how the company detected and disrupted those efforts.
The report says Anthropic disrupted every operation it highlighted and used lessons from the cases to strengthen its safeguards. Where appropriate, the company also shared its findings with authorities and other AI companies.
Anthropic noted that the cases are not typical, but represent some of the most sophisticated misuse it has observed. They are important to discuss because they show where AI misuse is headed, where current safeguards work, and where improvements are needed.
The company, an AI research and safety firm, said it published the report to help other platforms identify similar activity and give the public a clearer view of how emerging threats evolve. The full report is available on Anthropic's website.
