OpenAI CEO Endorses Federal Safety Framework for Frontier AI

By AI123

On September 14, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a social media post that the world should trust U.S. companies developing increasingly powerful artificial intelligence to act responsibly, especially as the pace of technological progress accelerates.

Altman said OpenAI welcomes a federal framework for frontier AI that establishes unified safety requirements. He added that companies do not need to wait for antitrust exemptions or legislation to begin work that provides such confidence.

He also noted that shifting toward safety-focused AI development and evaluation requires new tools. OpenAI looks forward to working with other industry participants to develop common standards for misalignment, monitoring, and safety.
