Former TikTok employees launch AI-powered photo posing app Superpose
Superpose, a new iOS app co-founded by former TikTok employees Melody Chu and Jing Liu, uses AI to generate photo poses and help users learn how to pose for pictures. Launched in July 2026, the app has been downloaded more than 22,000 times, and users have generated over 190,000 poses so far.
The app works as a camera tool: users take a selfie or a photo of a friend, and AI generates four potential poses as suggestions. Users can save generated poses or use a match-pose feature to position themselves in the frame according to the suggestions. Some poses can be extravagant and occasionally uncanny, and the company says it is working on improving its generation styles, personalization, and ways to coach users directly from the viewfinder.
Chu previously held product roles at companies including Meta, Nextdoor, Roblox, TikTok, and Slack. Liu was a founding engineer at a 3D face-scanning startup and later worked on image and video models at TikTok. Chu said the idea came from a personal problem: her husband could not take good photos of her, and she believed advances in computer vision and generative AI could solve it.
Free users get five generations per day, and can buy extra packs of five for $2.99 or 20 for $9.99. Superpose has raised $2.2 million from Khosla Ventures, Chinese smartphone and selfie app maker Meitu, and OVTR VC.
