Corning Expands Polarcor Polarizer Capacity for AI Data Center Optics
Corning announced on September 24 that it will expand manufacturing capacity for its Polarcor glass polarizers, responding to growing optical demand from AI data centers and computing applications.
Polarcor engineered glass polarizers are used in optical isolators and other laser optics components, serving as a key part of advanced optical and photonic systems. The expansion is aimed at increasing production of these components, which help control polarized light and prevent reflected light from interfering with laser devices.
Corning also said it has signed a new multi-year supply agreement with a leading active photonics technology company. The agreement is intended to provide long-term, stable supply assurance for key customers.
As AI workloads scale, data centers are increasingly relying on optical and photonic technologies to move large volumes of data quickly and efficiently. Optical interconnects play a growing role in system performance, making precise control of optical signals more important. An optical isolator, a component that allows light to pass in only one direction, stops reflected light from returning to the laser source and causing instability or damage.
At an investor event in May 2026, Corning said it expected to reach $20 billion in annualized sales by the end of 2026, $30 billion by the end of 2028, and $40 billion by the end of 2030.
