Doctor-Focused AI Search Startup OpenEvidence Raises $250M at $15B Valuation
Business Insider reported on September 25, 2026, that OpenEvidence, an AI-powered search service for doctors, has raised $250 million from multiple hospital systems and Andreessen Horowitz at a valuation of $15 billion. The Miami-based company was valued at $12 billion in its previous round in January 2026. Total funding over the past year has surpassed $1 billion, with investors including Thrive Capital, DST, GV, KPCB and Sequoia Capital, as well as Nvidia.
People familiar with the matter said OpenEvidence may consider selling the company, with the transaction also including rights to computing resources. They also noted that if anti-AI sentiment continues to rise and hampers data center expansion, compute supply could become tight in the future. It is not yet clear whether any potential acquirer has emerged, and the company may also choose to remain independent.
Founded in 2022, OpenEvidence describes its AI search engine as the fastest-growing doctor application. Its products are widely used by medical professionals, with more than two-thirds of U.S. doctors relying on it for diagnosis and treatment recommendations. The company maintains relationships with major technology firms; in addition to Nvidia, it reached a partnership with Anthropic during the final week of September 2026 and has integrated AI tools from Google and Microsoft.
The new funding comes as OpenAI and Anthropic expand further into healthcare, both providing foundation models to other companies and increasingly building their own medical tools. For potential acquirers, OpenEvidence offers an established user base of physicians, experience handling sensitive medical information, and a foothold in a healthcare market that AI companies are increasingly targeting.
