Samsung Electro-Mechanics to Invest KRW 6.78 Trillion in AI Server Substrate Capacity
On September 29, Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced a combined investment of 6.78 trillion KRW (approximately 33.6 billion USD) in South Korea and Vietnam to expand production capacity for FCBGA semiconductor substrates used in AI servers.
The company plans to invest 4.27 trillion KRW in its Sejong production base, with the investment period running from September 2026 to May 2028. This marks the largest single-product investment in the company's history, positioning the site as a core hub for high-value, high-difficulty mass production to respond to growing demand for AI server substrates.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electro-Mechanics will invest 2.51 trillion KRW through its Vietnamese subsidiary, targeting completion and mass production by June 2030. The Vietnamese subsidiary will operate as a strategic base for handling global orders through a stable supply system and improving production efficiency.
The expansion is intended to meet increasing long-term orders from global customers and enhance production efficiency and supply stability, focusing on high-growth markets such as AI servers, HPC, and automotive electronics. The investment is based on mid-to-long-term cooperation with major global technology and semiconductor customers, including customer funding support and long-term order commitments.
