IMF's Georgieva: AI could boost Asia's growth by up to 1 percentage point

By AI123

On October 12, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva shared her views on how artificial intelligence could affect economic growth and employment in Asia.

She said AI could raise Asia's overall growth rate by 0.5 to 1 percentage point, and even in emerging Asian markets, it could lift economic growth by 0.2 to 0.8 percentage points.

Regarding jobs, Georgieva estimated that AI could enhance, downgrade, or eliminate 40% of jobs over time. She noted that some advanced economies are already feeling the impact, calling the first wave of AI disruption a demand shock and an investment shock.

She also said countries such as the United States and India are among the most important producers in the AI field, and that related investment is helping keep global economic growth at around 3%.
