Tesla Renames FSD Computer to SI Computer in Owner's Manuals

By AI123

Tesla has updated its official owner's manuals to replace “FSD Computer” with “SI Computer” in sections covering the Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck. The manual now instructs owners to check Controls > Software and find SI Computer to confirm the onboard computer version.

In the Model Y manual, the updated wording describes the SI Computer as using sensor inputs to rapidly process neural network data and make driving decisions. Climate control sections also note that some features are not supported on vehicles equipped with SI Computer 2.0 or 2.5. Previously, the option was labeled “AI Computer.”

The change follows naming adjustments by Elon Musk earlier in October 2026, when SpaceXAI was renamed SpaceXSI and Tesla AI became Tesla Super Intelligence (Tesla SI). This comes after an executive order by U.S. President Donald Trump directing the use of “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official materials.

Under the new naming scheme, HW2.0, HW2.5, HW3, and AI4 could be renamed SI2.0, SI2.5, SI3, and SI4 respectively. Tesla's next-generation AI5 chip is being trial-produced at Samsung's Texas plant and may be marketed as SI5. Tesla has not officially announced the renaming plan; the new name may appear on vehicle screens through a future software update.
