Horizon Robotics: Journey Chips Exceed 15 Million Shipments, 4th-Gen BPU Targets Physical AI

By AI123

At the 2026 China Listed Companies High-Quality Development Forum held in Nantong on September 10, Horizon Robotics Executive Director and Chief Ecosystem Officer Xu Jian revisited the company's 2015 goal of designing dedicated brain chips for robots, enabling machines with environmental perception, human-machine interaction, and decision-making control. He said the company hopes to extend its automotive-grade technology to more robotic products.

According to Horizon Robotics, as of September 2026, its Journey series chips have shipped more than 15 million units, serving over 40 automaker brands. Xu said the HSD all-scenario assisted driving solution is based on the Journey 6 series chips and features software-hardware co-optimization, with mass-production data used to continuously verify technical maturity and reliability.

For the expansion from vehicles to robots, Xu noted that the company's fourth-generation BPU architecture, codenamed Riemann, is designed for physical AI and will support broader embodied intelligence applications beyond the automotive sector. Horizon Robotics will also open its toolchain and foundation models, allowing partners to reuse the platform capabilities validated in the automotive field to develop their own products.

Xu Jian added that achieving large-scale deployment of autonomous driving still requires long-term investment, and companies need to steadily improve assisted driving capabilities to gradually move toward L3 and L4 autonomy. He stressed that the winning computing platform in the physical AI era requires deep software-hardware collaboration and a broad ecosystem, emphasizing that Horizon Robotics provides underlying capabilities without seizing partners' core businesses or locking down the ecosystem.
