Google opens pre-orders for Gemini-powered Googlebook laptops on September 21
Google has announced that its new premium laptop line, Googlebook, will open for pre-orders on September 21 at 9 AM ET. The company notified users who had signed up for updates, and the date also appears on the official Googlebook website. This is the first concrete availability detail since Google unveiled the brand in May.
The Googlebook runs on an Android-based version of ChromeOS, with Gemini Intelligence at the core of the operating system. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo are all expected to offer models, building on their existing Chromebook experience.
One of the AI features is Magic Pointer: when a user wiggles the cursor, it turns into a special pointer that offers contextual action suggestions based on whatever is on the screen. Users can also generate custom widgets. The laptop features a distinctive “glowbar” on the lid and has deep integration with Android phones for cross-device workflows.
