Novo Nordisk Partners with Anthropic to Use Claude in Drug Discovery

By AI123

Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk announced on September 16 that it has entered a partnership with Anthropic to test Claude models and Claude Science in its research workflows, focusing on scientific challenges where the combination of the two companies' technologies could make the biggest impact.

The company said the collaboration aims to accelerate drug discovery and development. Novo Nordisk CEO Mike Doustdar noted that AI tools could create new research opportunities, assist scientists in reasoning, and deepen understanding of human biology and drug mechanisms. The company also plans to use Anthropic's frontier models to strengthen its AI-enabled software development efforts.

Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of weight-loss drug Wegovy, is already using Claude to automate the writing of clinical trial reports. The company said the time needed to produce patient-related documents has been reduced from months to minutes.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said giving top researchers access to safe, capable and trustworthy frontier models could shorten development cycles and improve research outcomes, helping to discover drugs and treatments that could significantly improve human life.
