Twist Bioscience Expects AI Drug Discovery Orders to Reach $100M in 2027
At Baird's 2026 Global Healthcare Conference, Twist Bioscience CEO Emily Leproust updated the company's guidance, saying it expects fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 revenue of approximately $124 million, up 25% year over year and marking the 15th consecutive quarter of revenue growth. The company also reiterated a long-term target of doubling revenue by 2031, implying a compound annual growth rate of around 15%.
Leproust identified AI-driven drug discovery and data services as the main driver of growth. The company received $25 million in related orders in 2025, expects $50 million in 2026, and projects $100 million in 2027. She described a typical customer path: a pilot project can evolve into a multi-million-dollar order within months, with customers using AI models to obtain drug targets and sequences before turning to Twist Bioscience for routine drug discovery work. She added that the company's biggest concern is that AI drug discovery and data services are in short supply.
Twist Bioscience, a synthetic biology and genomics company, provides high-throughput DNA synthesis, protein expression, and antibody discovery services, acting as an upstream wet-lab validation partner for AI drug developers and pharmaceutical companies. The company has announced a $250 million offering to expand DNA synthesis capacity. In August 2026, Anthropic designated Twist Bioscience as an independent experimental services provider, running wet-lab tests on minibinders designed with Claude Opus 4.8 and Mythos Preview and sending measured data back to Anthropic for model iteration.
Since the Anthropic collaboration was announced, Twist Bioscience shares have risen more than 50%, bringing year-to-date gains to over 335%. Industry analysts widely see surging AI drug discovery demand as a key driver of growth for upstream life-science service providers.
