Meta unveils $1,300 VR Glasses with external compute puck, launching Spring 2027
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the company's next-generation VR Glasses at its Connect event on Sept. 23, 2026. The device, which resembles a pair of oversized sunglasses and pairs with an external power and computing pod, will cost $1,300 and ship in Spring 2027.
Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite (XR2 Gen 3) processor, the VR Glasses feature a 5K (2,412 x 2,288) 120Hz micro-OLED display with a 70-degree horizontal field of view. The glasses themselves weigh 100 grams, while the wired compute pod adds 300 grams and packs 12GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a microSD card slot. Six external cameras handle color passthrough and motion tracking, while four internal cameras enable eye tracking. The device supports hand-gesture controls and iris-recognition unlock, and can pair with Touch Plus controllers to play existing Quest VR games.
Meta is positioning the VR Glasses as an all-in-one entertainment and productivity device, with support for virtual movie screens, multi-window computer multitasking, and more than 75 hand-powered games at launch. Hundreds of 3D films will be available to buy or rent, with 3D content also coming to streaming apps such as Disney+ and Peacock. The company also plans a "VR Enhanced Cinema" format, with titles like Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: Episode IV arriving in 2027, and National Geographic launching a 180-degree 3D video app that year.
