Nvidia CEO Says Losing Basic Math Skills to AI Is Not a Problem
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in an interview with The New York Times that forgetting basic math skills due to AI is not a problem.
When asked about a study of 26,000 Chinese students showing that AI helped them complete homework faster and get better grades but led to lower test scores over time, Huang acknowledged that "knowledge retention" issues may exist, but he is not worried. He cited his own experience, saying he can no longer remember his home address or phone number, and he fully accepts that.
Huang also noted that AI may reduce some "fine-grained mental flexibility" but will help people become better "systems thinkers." He described AI as a "capability multiplier" that should be used to deepen learning and enhance uniquely human abilities such as storytelling, aesthetics, and empathy.
