Macron urges nations to jointly build open-source AI models

By AI123

French President Emmanuel Macron called on countries seeking independent development in artificial intelligence to build their own infrastructure and develop open-source models, while urging greater regional investment and cooperation.

Speaking at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Macron said the world should not accept a situation where only the United States, China, or a few economic players decide the future of AI. He questioned who would determine which innovations to pursue, who should pause or continue development, and whether such technologies could threaten national security or be used to attack hospitals and banks.

Macron called on sovereign states that value their independence to pool their computing power and investment capabilities to jointly build an advanced open-source AI model for shared use.

He also expressed support for advancing an AI cooperation agenda within the G20 framework to protect the most vulnerable areas related to national security.
