China's First AI-Produced Theatrical Film 'Sanxingdui: Future Memories' Dated for Oct 23 Release
On September 27, "Sanxingdui: Future Memories" was officially scheduled to hit theaters nationwide on October 23, 2026. It is China's first theatrical film produced using AI technology to receive a public screening license from the National Film Administration, with a total runtime of 100 minutes.
The film is produced by Jiang Defu as producer and executive producer, Quji Xiaojiang as supervisor and producer, and Yue Ming as writer and director. It was generated by Boka Movie Cloud Studio, with all characters being original digital figures rather than digital copies of real actors. AI handled the generation and execution, while creative initiation and directorial judgment were carried out by the Bona AIGMS team following an industrial filmmaking process.
The story blends ancient Shu civilization with a futuristic world. In the sci-fi setting, binary codes hidden in Sanxingdui bronze inscriptions are discovered, and 3,000 years later, a super AI has taken over the world, plunging humanity into a global crisis. An archaeologist finds that the key to resolving the crisis lies in seven Sanxingdui symbols.
The creative team spent two years on technical exploration, using more than 1.2 million base images to bring the ancient civilization story to the big screen. The project previously appeared at the Cannes Film Festival and released an international concept trailer.
