Gurman: Apple's First Smart Home Hub Will Use AI Facial Recognition to Personalize Content

By AI123

In the first episode of the Power On podcast, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said Apple's first smart home hub will include AI facial recognition. The device can identify the family member currently using it and switch to show personalized photos, music, and calendar events. Gurman noted the product will not use Face ID, but did not elaborate on the differences.

A previous ITHome report described the upcoming hub as featuring 8GB of RAM, a 6-inch display and homeOS, with an expected launch on October 13, 2026.

AppleInsider speculates that future Apple smart home cameras might use the same technology, allowing the system to recognize individuals as users interact from different positions in a room. Security cameras could also use it to detect activity and trigger recording.
