Anthropic brings Claude directly into Google Docs, Sheets and Slides
On October 7, 2026, Anthropic announced that Claude is now directly integrated into Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. Users can open and edit Google files in the Claude web interface, and they can also work with Claude from a sidebar inside Google's productivity apps. The feature is available in public beta starting October 7 for all paid Claude plans, including Enterprise, alongside new Google Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors that let Claude create and edit Google files from the Claude interface.
The integration works in both directions. When a user opens a Google file, Claude appears in a sidebar and can read the document, spreadsheet or presentation, recognize selected content, and make changes directly. Alternatively, a user can start in Claude, paste a Google file link, or ask Claude to create a new Doc, Sheet or Slides deck, then continue working on the resulting file alongside the conversation. Access follows the user's existing Google sharing permissions.
In Docs, Claude can rewrite sentences or headings while preserving surrounding formatting, with larger revisions shown as proposed edits. In Sheets, Claude can write formulas, build pivot tables and native charts, create new tabs, manipulate data, and pull ranges into Python for processing before writing results back. In Slides, Claude can generate new slides using existing layouts and themes, and can inspect its own output for overlapping objects or hard-to-read text.
Claude defaults to an “Ask before edits” mode, while an “Accept all edits” mode allows larger tasks to run without stopping for each confirmation. Anthropic says enterprise controls such as the Compliance API, customer-managed encryption keys and OpenTelemetry audit exports also apply to the Workspace add-on. The Google integration is included with paid Claude plans at no additional cost.
