NVIDIA CEO Says Chinese AI Models Are 'Good Enough', Open Source to Boost Efficiency

By AI123

At a DBS Bank forum on October 12, 2026, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said Chinese AI models such as DeepSeek, Kimi and GLM have become "good enough." Describing himself as a firm supporter of open source, he said open source is the best way to improve efficiency, and the market will decide which models fit different use cases.

Huang also predicted that quantum computing could reach mainstream adoption within three to five years, with software playing an important role in using related infrastructure efficiently. He rejected the idea that AI competition has a finish line, saying: "We will use AI forever. The US will be there for a long time, and China will also be there for a long time."

Commenting on recent market jitters over China's new model Kimi K3, Huang said Washington politicians have misread its impact: "The market misunderstood DeepSeek's impact the first time, and Wall Street misunderstood Kimi's impact this time." He argued that cheaper and more open models will allow more people and businesses to benefit from AI, boosting demand for Nvidia's chips, data centers and computing power.

In July 2026, Huang told Axios that Chinese open-source AI models are excellent and the US should not fear them.
