NVIDIA, AMD, Google and Meta Release Open Data Center Specification v0.7

By AI123

At the Open Compute Project (OCP) Global Summit on October 12, NVIDIA announced the release of Open Data Center Specification v0.7 together with AMD, Google and Meta. The specification aims to unify power, cooling and physical layout designs for AI factories.

NVIDIA also said it is contributing its Vera Rubin rack and compute tray designs to OCP and opening up its MGX architecture. The updated MGX 1.2 specification adds rack-level blind-mate liquid cooling, interoperable rack interconnects, a liquid-cooled 5000A busbar and native 19-inch equipment support, enabling rack deployments of up to 250kW while simplifying assembly, testing, maintenance and deployment.

The company also released four open-source software components for DSX AI Factory, covering switch configuration, GPU cluster stress testing, rack firmware management and bare-metal deployment. The components are derived from NVIDIA DGX Cloud operations and are designed to help cloud service providers turn hardware into production clusters within hours.

In addition, Google, Meta, Microsoft and NVIDIA published a grid resilience specification requiring large-scale AI facilities to remain connected during grid disturbances and recover to near full load in under two seconds. Meta also plans to use NVIDIA Spectrum-6 102.4Tb/s Ethernet switches to build an open-network-based Vera Rubin AI factory.
