Google launches Fitbit Edge with Gemini-powered health coaching
Google introduced the Fitbit Edge on Monday, a new wearable positioned between the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch. Priced at $179.99, the Edge combines a slim band design with an OLED display for checking directions, notifications, weather and music controls.
The device supports Google Health Coach, powered by Gemini, which creates weekly routines and workout plans based on users' fitness and health data, and requires a Google Health Premium subscription. It also includes Health Guardian, a feature announced with the Pixel Watch 5 in August that monitors notable changes in health measurements, including blood pressure and insulin resistance indicators.
The Fitbit Edge can automatically recognize and log up to 100 activities, supports more than 50 exercise modes, and offers on-screen workout prompts. Google says its built-in GPS is 40% more accurate than the previous generation, while sleep-stage detection is 15% more accurate. Battery life is rated at up to seven days, and the device is water-resistant to 50 meters.
Pre-orders are available through the Google Store, with general availability on October 27. Color options include Obsidian, Fog, Olive and Canyon, plus a Stephen Curry Special Edition at $219.99.
