Apple launches HomePod mini 2 with new audio features; Siri AI to follow
On October 13, 2026, Apple introduced the HomePod mini 2, a new version of its compact smart speaker that essentially keeps the original design while adding blue, green, and pink fabric finishes alongside the existing white and Midnight options.
The update is largely focused on audio. A new Sound Glow feature uses the speaker's light panel to mirror the colors of album artwork, while soundscapes can trigger patterns resembling raindrops or ocean waves. Users can also pair two HomePod minis as persistent AirPlay speakers for any Mac or MacBook, with the connection staying active until changed.
For home theater setups, up to four HomePod mini 2 units can be used as surround sound speakers with the new Apple TV 4K. The feature also supports the second-generation HomePod, allowing a mix of two HomePod minis and two full-size HomePods. Previously, the living room setup was limited to two HomePod speakers.
One aspect missing at launch is Siri AI. Apple said the feature will not be available when the speaker ships, and did not provide a timeline for its arrival.
Pre-orders for the HomePod mini 2 are open now at $149, with availability starting October 30, 2026. The original HomePod mini launched in 2020 at $99.
