Anthropic unveils Claude Duet, a proactive AI assistant for mobile and web

By AI123

On October 21, Anthropic unveiled Claude Duet, an AI assistant built on the Opus 5.5 model. It runs through a standalone mobile app for iOS and Android as well as claude.ai, and is available as a research preview to U.S. subscribers on the Pro and Max plans.

Duet monitors connected applications, prepares a daily briefing, and handles background assignments such as investigating unpaid invoices, drafting customer follow-ups, building financial forecasts, and creating web applications. Its remote computing environment lets tasks continue after a user closes a laptop or turns off a phone. Users interact through a persistent text or voice conversation, and Duet carries over existing account memory, skills, and app connections.

Before taking consequential actions such as sending a message, making a payment, signing an agreement, or deleting material, Duet presents the intended action and asks for approval. Anthropic added safeguards including a sensitive-information classifier, credential isolation, and defenses against prompt injection. Duet can draw on more than 6,000 connectors and plugins from the Claude Marketplace, with announced integrations including QuickBooks, Stripe, HubSpot, and Docusign. During the preview, Duet is included in Pro and Max subscriptions with no separate charge, though monitoring and tasks consume subscribers' usage allowances.

Anthropic said Duet checks accounts every few hours rather than providing continuous real-time supervision. The launch positions Duet against similar persistent agents such as Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots. Team and Enterprise subscriptions are not yet included in the preview, and Anthropic has not announced an enterprise rollout schedule.
