OpenAI Rolls Out iCloud Mail and Calendar Plugins to All ChatGPT Plans
On October 27, OpenAI announced in a blog post that it is rolling out iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar plugins to all ChatGPT subscription tiers, including Free, Go, Plus, and Pro. The plugins are available on the web, desktop, and iOS versions of ChatGPT.
Once authorized by users, ChatGPT can read and check iCloud inboxes, create and manage emails, and create or update Apple Calendar events based on meeting, flight, and schedule information found in emails. For iPhone, iPad, and Mac users, this allows ChatGPT to take a more active role in daily tasks, such as identifying meeting times from emails and automatically adding them to the calendar, organizing itineraries, drafting replies, or reminding users of to-dos.
OpenAI said the move improves ChatGPT's compatibility with iCloud Mail and Apple Calendar. Tech publication AppleInsider noted that the update also raises privacy and competition questions. Users must explicitly grant ChatGPT access to their email and calendar, and since emails often contain sensitive account, travel, financial, and work information, permission boundaries and data handling will be a key concern.
