PepNova-AI: World's First AI Large Language Model for Bioactive Peptides Launched

By AI123

On October 29, 2026, a research team led by Shenyang Agricultural University, in collaboration with several scientific platforms including the National Agricultural Environmental Microorganism Germplasm Resource Bank and the National Forestry and Grassland Administration key laboratories, officially released PepNova-AI, described as the world's first artificial intelligence large language model for bioactive peptides. The model is now freely available to users worldwide.

According to Professor Wu Rina from the university's Smart Agriculture Research Institute, general-purpose large language models often lack sufficient professional knowledge in the bioactive peptide field and may produce hallucinations. To address this, the team built a dedicated knowledge base for bioactive peptides using previous research results and high-quality papers from domestic and international journals, combining retrieval-augmented generation technology with a multi-billion-parameter large language model.

The model enhances domain knowledge by parsing and vectorizing professional literature into searchable representations. When users ask questions, the system retrieves relevant scientific information through semantic matching and feeds it into the language model to generate professional responses based on semantic understanding and reasoning.

PepNova-AI includes two models: a lightweight rapid-response model named "Pei Le Le" and a deep-thinking model named "Pei Bao Bao." The dual-model setup is designed to support different research scenarios, including knowledge retrieval, sequence analysis, functional prediction, mechanism interpretation, and experimental design for bioactive peptide research.
