Zimbabwean writer Simbarashe Kundizeza denied using AI to create his award-winning short story "The Blue Fighter," after The Atlantic reported that AI detection tool Pangram flagged nearly the entire story as AI-generated. Kundizeza denied the claims on X and told AP on Wednesday that AI detection technology is biased against African writers, calling for responsible use of technology. The Caine Prize organizers said the award has not been withdrawn but is under review.
BBC reported on Sept. 23 that Haitian-Canadian writer Télios Aurélien, whose novel won the Fnac Prize and was shortlisted for the Goncourt and Renaudot awards, was accused by a group called "Balance ton Claude" of having written the book almost entirely with AI, citing a Pangram test showing 100% AI generation. Aurélien denied the claim, saying the first draft was written in 2019, and his publisher Grasset defended him.
