China's Computing Power Share Expected to Reach 30% Globally by 2030, Says CAS Academician
At the 2026 China Computing Power Conference on September 12, 2026, Wu Hequan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that the rise of AI agents is significantly driving the growth of token consumption. He noted that daily token consumption reached 140 trillion in March 2026.
Wu said that as technology advances, the focus of token consumption is shifting from sheer volume to efficiency. He also pointed out that declining token application costs in China are encouraging broader usage.
According to Wu, token consumption is directly proportional to computing power demand, meaning that agent-driven token growth will boost demand for computing resources. China currently accounts for about 21% of global computing power, while the United States holds 46%. Under China's national computing power network plan, the country's share is expected to rise to 30% by 2030.
