Verizon Completes Field Trials of 5G Advanced Sensing and Communication

On September 14, Verizon announced the completion of two field trials of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) based on 5G Advanced. The trials used wireless signals to detect crowd density in real time and tracked drones and ground vehicles while maintaining high-speed mobile connectivity.

ISAC is a technology introduced by 5G Advanced that enables networks to sense the environment while providing communication. Verizon also said Amazon Web Services, Nvidia, Intel, Cisco and other companies have joined its 6G innovation forum. The company additionally showcased an AI sports assistant prototype built on edge networking, Meta AI glasses and a small language model.
