Trump rejects AI slowdown push in live call with Nvidia's Jensen Huang

By AI123

While speaking at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles on the morning of Sept. 14, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang received a phone call from President Donald Trump. Huang put the call on speaker so attendees could hear the conversation.

Trump said he would not allow AI development to slow down, calling the push to slow AI a 'hoax.' Huang replied, 'You're right. We're not going to let that happen, sir,' drawing applause from the crowd.

The call came during a discussion about Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's call to 'slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI.' SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman have publicly said they agree with Amodei, while Huang's views have diverged.

Trump said people pushing for a slowdown are 'playing right into the hands' of those who don't want to see AI progress, possibly political people or China. He added that the U.S. must be careful and do things prudently, but that doesn't mean stopping an industry.

Trump and his allies have described growing sentiment against data center construction as part of an international psyop. Gallup polling shows seven in 10 Americans oppose data centers in their area, with more than half citing effects on environmental resources and about 20% concerned about cost-of-living increases and quality of life.
