Nvidia Expands Open-Source CUDA-Q Platform With Logical Layer for Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing
On September 14, 2026, Nvidia announced an expansion of its open-source CUDA-Q platform with the addition of the CUDA-Q Logical orchestration layer. The layer is designed to provide programmable, verifiable tools for developing fault-tolerant quantum computing applications, including drug discovery, financial modeling, and materials development.
According to Nvidia, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory used CUDA-Q Logical to cut fault-tolerant algorithm development time from roughly five months to three weeks, an efficiency gain of about 7x. Sandia National Laboratories' QUOPS quantum computing benchmark has also been integrated into CUDA-Q to help evaluate cross-platform progress toward practical fault-tolerant quantum hardware.
CUDA-Q Logical has been adopted by Fermilab, Infleqtion, IQM Quantum Computers and other quantum computing companies and research institutions.
