US Tech Advisor David Sacks Says Anthropic, OpenAI Should Proceed on Safety at Their Own Pace
David Sacks, co-chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, said in an interview on Monday that leading AI companies Anthropic and OpenAI should build safe products and proceed at their own pace if necessary, without government intervention.
Sacks's remarks came amid discussions over AI safety regulation. The same day, President Donald Trump called Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at an industry summit and defended AI, calling safety concerns a "scam" and praising data centers as "great," saying they make individuals and states "rich" and are "the oil of the next 20, 25 years."
Sacks has also criticized the two companies on his social media, saying, "Stop pretending your motivations for slowing down are entirely about being good to others." He warned that they would face significant liability if their products cause truly destructive cyberattacks, adding that the market is already punishing models with unpredictable or unauthorized behavior.
