On September 15, Dutch chip startup Axelera AI officially started selling Europa, its second-generation AIPU chip. The SoC integrates eight AI processing cores delivering 629 TOPS of AI compute, alongside 16 RISC-V vector processing cores.
Europa supports INT4, INT8, and INT16 data formats, packs 128MB of on-chip L2 cache, supports 256-bit LPDDR5 memory, and offers four PCIe Gen4 lanes, with a total power consumption of 45W. Axelera AI is offering Europa both as a standalone chip and as a PCIe AIC.
The company claims that Europa achieves six times the token throughput per watt of GPU-based solutions and over eight times the token throughput at equivalent price compared to the best competing products.
