Huawei Report Predicts 10,000x Growth in Global Token Consumption by 2035

Huawei has released two research reports, Smart World 2035: From Vision to Action and Global Digitalization Index (GDII) 2026. The reports highlight that Agentic AI is driving the digital world to shift from an application-centric model to an agent-centric one.

According to the reports, intelligent agents continuously sense their environment, make autonomous decisions, dynamically invoke tools, and interact with humans in real time—each step generating and transferring massive amounts of tokens. Huawei predicts that by 2035, global annual token consumption will grow 100,000 times, with agent traffic accounting for over 90% of the total. This will place demands on computing power, networks, and cloud infrastructure far beyond those of traditional internet applications.
