UBTech Releases World's First Humanoid Robot Ethics White Paper with Three Protection Goals

By AI123

On September 21, at the embodied intelligence ethics governance seminar themed "Embodied for Good, Collaborative Governance," UBTech officially released the world's first "White Paper on Ethical Governance of Humanoid Robot Technology."

The white paper addresses practical challenges arising from the accelerated deployment of humanoid robots in industrial, commercial, and home companion scenarios. It systematically proposes a full-process governance framework covering ethical risk identification, assessment, control, testing, and review, translating abstract embodied intelligence ethics principles into actionable requirements and providing a practical roadmap for large-scale humanoid robot applications.

UBTech introduced three special protection goals for humanoid robot ethics: action controllability, meaning robot actions remain within effective human intervention at all times; appropriate anthropomorphism, ensuring the degree of human likeness matches functional needs and avoids substantive misidentification; and measured interaction, ensuring long-term interaction does not erode human autonomous judgment or real-world relationships. The white paper also establishes a "seven-step risk management framework" to convert ethical principles into executable requirements.

Furthermore, it categorizes ethical impacts into eight domains including physical action safety, cognition and autonomy, and emotion and relationships, and proposes eight risk control strategies such as elimination, restriction, and separation. The framework emphasizes parallel implementation of engineering technical requirements and organizational governance requirements to ensure risks are controlled at the source.
