China's Foreign Ministry Responds to Questions on U.S.-China AI Dialogue Mechanism
On September 22, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun responded to questions about a possible U.S.-China artificial intelligence dialogue mechanism at a regular press briefing.
A reporter noted that U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent had said the two sides' negotiating teams discussed establishing an AI dialogue mechanism, potentially including a notification framework. The reporter asked whether specific AI-related measures would be announced during this week's leaders' meeting, and whether China believes the U.S. intends to restrict China's AI development.
Guo said China has released relevant information about the economic and trade consultations, and suggested that specific questions be directed to the competent Chinese authorities. He also reiterated that all parties should jointly promote the open, inclusive, and beneficial development of artificial intelligence.
