LG Electronics' 2.5MW CDU Earns NVIDIA DSX Ready Certification for AI Factories
LG Electronics announced on September 22 that its 2.5-megawatt coolant distribution unit (CDU) has earned NVIDIA's DSX Ready certification, granting the company technical qualification to participate in NVIDIA's AI factory projects.
DSX Ready is NVIDIA's certification program for infrastructure products used in large-scale AI data centers that integrate GPUs with cooling, power, networking, and operations technology. Only three 2.5MW-class CDUs worldwide have received this certification.
LG noted that certification does not guarantee orders; final procurement still depends on project requirements and supplier selection by NVIDIA and data center customers. Following the announcement, LG Electronics' Korea-listed shares rose nearly 7%.
The 2.5MW capacity matters because a single server rack in an AI factory consumes about 120kW, and 20 racks total roughly 2.4MW, closely matching one 2.5MW CDU. LG already has 600kW and 1MW CDUs certified under other data center programs, covering different scale needs.
CDUs are the core of LG's liquid cooling approach for AI data centers, circulating coolant and transferring heat away from power-hungry chips. The company is also developing chillers, computer room air handling units, and cold plates to expand from individual devices into complete liquid cooling solutions. TrendForce forecasts adoption of liquid cooling in AI data centers to rise from 14% in 2024 to 60% in 2025.
