YouTube launches AI agent that helps creators revive old videos
At its annual Made on YouTube event on September 23, 2026, YouTube announced upgrades to the AI creation tools it introduced in 2025 and unveiled an agent designed to help creators optimize their channels.
The agent can review videos a channel has published in the past, identify content that is regaining attention, aligns with news events, or starting to trend, and suggest updating old video thumbnails or titles to attract renewed interest. Amjad Hanif, YouTube's vice president of creator products, said the agent can also organize channel content and extract audience demographic data to help creators prepare sponsorship pitches for brands.
After creators upload a video, the agent can generate thumbnails and titles based on the content, and can provide feedback on thumbnails the creator has made. When creators test through YouTube Studio, different viewers may see different content. The dynamic thumbnail tool supports up to three images per video, and YouTube selects the most suitable one for different audiences in an effort to increase watch time.
Testing has also expanded to the videos themselves. Creators can provide three versions of a video with different openings, hooks, or overall structures and compare their performance. The system delivers the different versions to a small audience and identifies the version with the highest watch time. Creators can choose the final version, or let YouTube select it automatically after seven days. Hanif said the system will ensure that the three versions do not differ too much from one another.
