Spotify brings Taste Profile to US Premium subscribers, letting listeners shape recommendations with natural language
Spotify has begun rolling out Taste Profile to Premium subscribers in the U.S., giving listeners a new way to see and shape how the platform recommends music and other audio. The feature launched on Wednesday lets users view Spotify's understanding of their tastes and submit natural language requests to change future suggestions.
Taste Profile is powered by Spotify's AI. It was first unveiled at SXSW in Austin in March by co-CEO Gustav Söderström and initially entered beta testing in New Zealand. The U.S. rollout brings the feature to Spotify's largest market by traffic and revenue, where it will be tested with users aged 18 and older.
The feature gives listeners more direct control over the recommendations behind Spotify's Discover Weekly, Made for You and Spotify Wrapped experiences. Users can ask for more or less of a specific genre, artist or overall vibe, and can also exclude content they regularly stream but do not want reflected in future recommendations, such as sleep sounds or music played on a family account.
Earlier tools only allowed exclusions of specific tracks or playlists, with Spotify recently adding a toggle to keep kids' music from affecting parents' recommendations. To use Taste Profile, subscribers open the mobile app, go to their profile and select Taste Profile, then enter adjustments under “Tell us more.” Spotify says Home feed suggestions will update within a few hours. The feature remains in beta, with no timeline announced for a wider release.
