OpenAI brings voice-based agentic features to ChatGPT mobile app

By AI123

OpenAI announced on Sept. 23, 2026 that it is bringing voice-based agentic features to the ChatGPT mobile app, letting users trigger workflows such as drafting documents or summarizing emails by voice.

Plus and Pro subscribers can use the Work tab on their phones to create documents, draft emails, summarize Slack messages, build websites, make presentations, use the cloud browser, and access areas like finances. Free and Go users will be able to use plugins and connected apps.

OpenAI said voice conversations will now deliver richer text output. Users can easily switch between text and voice, and can start a conversation on mobile and pick it up later on desktop.

The update comes as more users rely on voice to issue complex commands to AI assistants. In July 2026, OpenAI released GPT-Live, a conversational model, and later integrated it into the desktop app so users could complete tasks in the Work tab or build apps in the Codex tab. The new rollout brings similar capabilities to mobile.

Anthropic recently made handoffs between mobile and desktop easier and merged its Claude Chat and Cowork interfaces, while OpenAI continues to keep chat and workspace separate.
