Hugging Face CEO Urges Transparency and Open-Source AI at UN
Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue addressed the United Nations on September 24, calling for greater transparency from private companies developing cutting-edge AI models and advocating the widespread distribution of open-source AI models. He said the AI industry should not stir public fear, arguing that fear-based narratives are not conducive to making sound decisions about the future of AI.
“We firmly believe that a fear-based narrative is not the way to make the right decisions about the future of this foundational, empowering technology, or to keep the public aligned with us,” Delangue said.
His remarks came as the CEOs of OpenAI and Anthropic also spoke at the UN Security Council, urging the establishment of global AI safety mechanisms. Delangue focused instead on transparency and the open-source ecosystem. Hugging Face is a well-known open-source AI community and model hosting platform.
