SUSE Launches AI Factory and Operations Assistant Liz
On September 29, 2026, open-source infrastructure vendor SUSE unveiled an updated enterprise private AI roadmap, introducing SUSE AI Factory for enterprise AI workloads and Liz, an agentic assistant for cloud-native operations.
SUSE AI Factory combines NVIDIA AI Enterprise with SUSE's security governance, Linux, and cloud-native capabilities. It supports deployment in on-premises data centers, multi-cloud, and isolated environments, and can integrate with Chinese model ecosystems including DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi, Doubao, and Zhipu AI. SUSE said its focus is not on large models themselves, but on deployment, governance, operations, and cross-infrastructure operation once models enter production environments.
Liz is integrated into SUSE Rancher Prime and targets SRE and platform engineering teams. It can read cluster metrics and system events, and use natural language to assist with fault analysis and root cause identification. SUSE emphasized that Liz adopts a human-in-the-loop mechanism, with engineers retaining final decision-making for critical production operations. For the Chinese market, Liz has been localized to support models such as Qwen, DeepSeek, Zhipu, Kimi, and MiniMax.
SUSE describes its positioning as "infra for AI" and "AI for infra." According to Alessandro Festa, senior product manager for SUSE AI, SUSE AI Factory may eventually evolve into a Token Factory that unifies distributed compute resources to improve GPU utilization. On security, SUSE scans and patches open-source components entering enterprise software stacks and uses zero-trust mechanisms for runtime security.
The company is betting on a shift in the enterprise AI market from pilots to production-scale deployment, where issues such as compute utilization, data security, model governance, and operational complexity are becoming key challenges.
