SEMIFIVE wins US AI chip firm order for LPDDR6 data center inference accelerator

By AI123

South Korean chip design services company SEMIFIVE announced on Sept. 29 that it has been selected by a U.S. fabless AI chip design firm to develop a data-center-grade inference accelerator supporting LPDDR6 and PCIe Gen5.

The chip is expected to tape out in the first half of 2027 and enter mass production in 2028. The project represents one of the early use cases of LPDDR6 as an off-chip cache for ASIC designs.

Under the "spec handover" model, the customer provides core performance and specification targets, while SEMIFIVE handles the process from detailed design through packaging, testing, volume production and software development. The order marks SEMIFIVE's first project of this kind in North America. Valued at approximately KRW 70.3 billion (about RMB 348 million), it is the company's largest single contract to date, exceeding 40% of its total orders in 2025 and representing about 60% of its order intake in the first half of 2026.
