TrendForce: Global Server CPU Lead Times Extend to 25-30 Weeks on AI Agent Demand

By AI123

TrendForce said in a blog post on September 28 that global server CPU lead times have stretched to 25-30 weeks, up from a typical 16-20 weeks, driven by the rise of AI agents.

The research firm cited Meta's Muse agent as an example, noting that AI agents have become an important direction in AI infrastructure buildout and are boosting demand for server CPUs. Muse can perform multi-step tasks and access websites through cloud browsers; even when users close the app, the agent can continue handling tasks in the background and manage specific operations. The service runs in isolated virtual machines, each equipped with its own browser and stored user data and credentials, with a Sentinel security mechanism continuously monitoring the environment.

Meta has previously proposed dedicated virtual machines for each Muse user, with each VM configured with 2 vCPUs, 8GB of RAM and 100GB of SSD storage, which would require millions of new CPUs. DRAM supply also remains tight, with lead times at 20 weeks in a balanced market versus eight weeks normally. Discussions about supply tightness and price increases are intensifying for the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.
