OpenAI launches $500/month Pro tier while cutting existing $200 plan benefits

By AI123

At its DevDay event on September 30, OpenAI announced a new $500-per-month Pro subscription, its highest-usage tier to date. The plan includes access to "Ultrafast," a premium speed tier that lets Codex and Work generate up to 300 tokens per second. The speed option is also available to API users.

OpenAI also reduced the allowances on its existing $200 Pro plan. Usage in Codex and Work will drop from 20x to 10x the Plus allowance, while the GPT-6 Pro weekly message limit in ChatGPT will fall from 200 to 100. Current subscribers will keep their existing limits for now and later receive a one-time credit, the company said.

The company said all Pro subscribers will receive Dot, its new personal AI agent, and conversations with Dot will not count against ChatGPT usage limits. OpenAI also partnered with 16 companies, including Notion and Cognition, to let Plus and Pro users run OpenAI models in those services using "Sign in with ChatGPT," without needing to set up an API key.

OpenAI also introduced GPT-6.1 Sol at DevDay, saying the model offers nearly the same performance as its current frontier system, GPT-6.0 Astra, in areas such as coding and computer use, while costing one fifth as much and being safer to use.
