OmniVision Unveils AI Co-processor OAX7700 for Low-Power Parking Surveillance
On September 30, OmniVision introduced the OAX7700, an always-on vision AI co-processor with an integrated NPU. A parking surveillance system built on the chip consumes only 3% of the power of existing solutions on the market.
The OAX7700 provides edge AI capabilities including human detection, person and object recognition, and distance measurement. It can upgrade existing automotive external camera systems such as surround-view systems into a parking monitoring setup based on ultra-low-power edge AI. In always-on mode, the camera continuously monitors the vehicle surroundings with very low power consumption. When an event trigger is detected, it can immediately switch to normal operation, recording 5 to 10 seconds of pre-event video for the electronic control unit to analyze and verify, and trigger an alarm if necessary.
The chip uses a 5.5 × 3.5mm 60-pin BGA package with stacked PSRAM and flash memory. It is now sampling, with mass production planned for the first quarter of 2027.
