Cloudflare Containers Rebuild Brings 6x Faster Startup and Runtime Sandbox Selection
Cloudflare has announced a rebuilt version of Cloudflare Containers, aimed at scaling agent sandboxes. The service now starts containers up to six times faster and allows an agent to choose the image and instance type for each sandbox at runtime. Filesystem snapshots are also being introduced in public beta. All of these capabilities are controlled from a Durable Object.
The reconstruction ties container lifecycle management more closely to Durable Objects, Cloudflare's coordination and persistence primitive. With filesystem snapshots in beta, users can save sandbox filesystem state for later recovery or duplication. By moving image and instance type selection to runtime, the service lets developers avoid fixing sandbox parameters in advance and adjust each environment's configuration dynamically. Cloudflare said the upgrade is focused on agent sandbox scenarios, and the new capabilities are now available to developers.
