OpenAI rolls out virtual try-on and Favorites features for ChatGPT

By AI123

On October 1, 2026, OpenAI announced the global rollout of two new shopping features for ChatGPT: virtual try-on and Favorites. The features are powered by the newly launched ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, which OpenAI says produces more natural lighting and richer textures while reducing image generation latency.

With virtual try-on, ChatGPT users can upload a selfie or full-body photo to see how a piece of clothing or an accessory might look on them. The option appears as a new Try On button in ChatGPT's shopping results. Users can also upload an image of an item, such as a web screenshot, and ask ChatGPT to try it on for them.

The Favorites feature lets users save products they discover to a Library in the app, where they can revisit them later alongside their try-on images.

OpenAI said ChatGPT can help with shopping in other ways, such as describing a style and asking ChatGPT to find the pieces to complete the look, or uploading photos of celebrity outfits to locate purchasable items. OpenAI previously pivoted away from an instant checkout idea that did not perform well.

Google introduced a virtual try-on feature in 2025, and it remains to be seen whether ChatGPT will become users' first choice for this type of activity.
