TSMC reportedly weighs multiple AI fabs in Texas at $20B each
By AI123
TSMC is considering building a new campus in Texas with multiple wafer fabs, according to media reports on Oct. 2. Each fab is expected to cost at least $20 billion, adding tens of billions of dollars to the company's U.S. chip manufacturing expansion.
The chipmaker, a preferred manufacturer for Nvidia and Apple, has been studying further production facilities. It has already committed $265 billion to an Arizona campus, where several fabs are being developed.
Sources said the Texas investment would involve multiple fabs, each costing at least $20 billion. The plan depends on whether the U.S. Congress extends tax credits expiring at the end of the year.
